With the current gas prices, I'm spending half of my Starbuck's earnings just on getting there and back again. It's a 45 minute ride each way and though most of it is freeway driving, it's still a long haul. This is the closest store that has hours available--I applied to the store in Port Orchard lat year, but they ended up hiring a slender 20-something blond who "seemed to fit in better with their current crew."
I am lucky in that I do like the store I'm working at--both the customers and my co-workers are great and the store manager is sensitive to my driving plight. We're working on trying to schedule me for longer shifts fewer times a week--coming in three days instead of six--but there's no guarantee that it'll be every week as most everyone will be taking vacation this summer and the rest of us will be working around that.
This has put a real damper--both emotionally and financially--on where I wanted to be by this time. I am struggling just to contribute my share of the household bills. It looks like I'm going to have to try and find additional work.
